BlinkIn and the EIC Accelerator: A Help Button Turns AI Agency
BlinkIn, registered in 2020 in Baiern near Munich, started with video-based remote assistance during the pandemic. Its EIC project promised much more: "VisualBots" that analyse a problem through a phone camera and guide users to a fix with augmented reality, a no-code platform and an open European marketplace for "visual skills", adding up to "a visual AI Operating System as a European counter force" to Siri, Alexa and Bixby. Its moonshot was to "Give the world a Help Button", according to CORDIS.
The European Innovation Council granted €2,500,000 towards a €3.9 million project from February 2023 to February 2026. The first-year report, the only one on CORDIS, describes a no-code AI Studio for building step-by-step guides, small and large vision-language models trained on companies' own images, text and video, and a link to a human help desk. BlinkIn's homepage now offers agentic apps, AI agents, an AI chat, a sales coach for car dealers and "forward deployed engineering" services. The words "visual", "computer vision", "self-service" and "support" do not appear on it.

Where BlinkIn Stands Now
BlinkIn describes itself as "KI-Technologie & Delivery": clients bring a process or problem and BlinkIn assembles a stack from their systems, its modules and open AI tools, with a four-week "build sprint" as an entry offer. Its about page still tells the earlier story: a pilot with the pump maker Wilo that spread to 52 sites, and a project with the German motoring club ADAC in which its Visual Assistant recognised dashboard warnings and guided drivers through oil checks. That page says the EIC funding supports "our AI platform and applications for real work". No customer for the visual AI operating system has been announced.
The record
From a visual help button to a general AI platform
BlinkIn pitched the EIC a European visual AI operating system to rival Siri and Alexa. It now sells an agentic AI platform and engineering services to companies.

"We define a new category of automated visual support with market potential way beyond the standard audio or chatbots assistant towards a visual AI Operating System."
BlinkIn, EIC project objectiveThe Technology: Vision-Language Models
BlinkIn's research page describes Blinkin VLM, a vision-language model trained with self-supervised methods, such as masked text and image modelling, to link images and text without large labelled datasets. The EIC report says the AI Studio lets companies turn their data into "multimodal companions" in minutes. BlinkIn claims its customers cut time to resolution by 60% and costs by 57% and raised fix rates by 48%, without naming the customers or explaining how these figures were measured.

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows
The EIC project
The EU paid 64% of a €3.9M project
The project ran from February 2023 to February 2026. CORDIS still lists it as signed and shows only the first-year report.
CORDIS project 190155678. Values in € millions.
The first year produced the studio and models. The later steps of the plan, an open ecosystem where contributors sell visual skills and a consumer-facing visual assistant, are not documented anywhere public. The company's current products are general-purpose AI tools. CORDIS still lists the project as signed and shows no report after January 2024.

The Money
North Data lists no annual accounts for BlinkIn GmbH, so its revenue, losses and cash are not public; the register shows only the EIC grant and changes to managers and shareholder lists, according to North Data. Whether the EIC Fund invested is not public.

What BlinkIn's homepage talks about now
Number of times each term appears in the text of BlinkIn's German homepage (blinkin.de), read on 30 September 2026. The EIC proposal was built on visual, computer vision and self-service support.

What Cannot Be Checked
Questions for the EIC
Whether the EIC Fund invested, whether the EIC approved the change of direction, why no final report is public, and BlinkIn's revenue and headcount are not public.
Why Europe Should Care
The EIC funded BlinkIn as a European answer to American voice assistants. The company still exists and sells AI, but as a builder of enterprise AI agents, not as the platform it pitched.
What the project promised
A visual AI operating system and open skills marketplace to rival Siri and Alexa.
What the record shows
An AI studio and models, then a switch to agentic AI apps and engineering services, with no public accounts.
The Verdict
The help button went missing
BlinkIn built AI tools with the EIC grant and now sells general-purpose agents. The European visual assistant it promised the EIC is not what its homepage offers today.
