Compira Labs and the EIC Accelerator: Faster Video Streaming

29 September 2026685 words4 min

Video streams stall and drop in quality on what Compira calls the "last-mile delivery challenge", the final stretch of network to the viewer. Compira Labs, a company in Ness Ziona, Israel, built FAST-STREAM, software for content delivery and telecoms networks meant to cut stalls and low-quality playback.

The European Innovation Council granted €2,489,148 towards a €3.57 million project that tested the software "in the field with many thousands of live customers" of Telefonica, Lumen, Conversant Solutions and Medianova, and reported 30% less rebuffering. The project ended in September 2024. In September 2026 Compira's website, compiralabs.com, showed only a notice that the domain "isn't connected to a site", and we found no other public sign of the company.

What We Could Find

Compira's domain now shows a website builder's placeholder page. We found no press release, product page or customer announcement from the company after the project, and could not access Israeli company records or archived copies of its site. We therefore cannot say whether Compira still operates, was sold or has closed.

The Technology: Smarter Delivery Over the Last Mile

According to the CORDIS report, FAST-STREAM targets "the last-mile delivery challenge" for over-the-top streaming services and was qualified in the networks of four content delivery and telecoms partners. It reports that the software could "reduce rebuffering metrics by 30%" and "reduce the number of low-quality video sessions by more than 30%".

What Has Happened Since the Award

The record

Field trials with big networks, then a dead domain

Compira's EIC project reported trials with Telefonica, Lumen and others; by September 2026 its website domain was no longer connected.

The Money

The award was "grant first"; we found no EIC Fund investment or any funding round.

What cannot be checked

Whether any trial partner became a paying customer, whether Compira still exists, and what happened to its technology are not public in any source we could access.

Why Europe Should Care

Better streaming delivery serves both viewers and network operators, including Europe's Telefonica, which took part in the trials. The EIC funded validation with serious partners. If the company has since disappeared, that result has not reached the market.

What the project promised

A solution to the last-mile delivery problem for quality streaming.

What the record shows

Field trials with four network partners and 30% less rebuffering; then an offline website and no news.

The Verdict

Validated, then vanished from view

FAST-STREAM reported named partners and measured results. But two years later the company has no working website and no public trace of customers. The EU's record ends there, and we could not establish whether the business went on.
