Tucuvi and the EIC Accelerator: A Voice AI That Calls Patients

30 September 2026907 words5 min

Tucuvi, founded in Madrid in 2019 by CEO María González and CTO Marcos Rubio, makes LOLA, a voice assistant that phones patients, asks about their symptoms and flags alerts to their care teams. Its EIC project said LOLA had talked with patients "for +50.000 hours, in 3 languages, about 12 medical protocols" and was "the only voice-based conversational software CE marked as a medical device", and set out to monitor "any patient, on any pathology in a non-supervised way", according to CORDIS.

The European Innovation Council granted €2,500,000 towards a €3.63 million project from February 2023 to July 2025. The only published report, covering the first year, says LOLA was working in 25 care pathways and 3 languages, and that new interoperability tools and a medical dashboard were built; it also records a delay caused by "difficulties encountered in data collection". CORDIS lists the project as closed. In January 2026 Tucuvi raised a $20 million Series A led by Cathay Innovation and Kfund, and said it served more than 60 healthcare organisations.

Where Tucuvi Stands Now

Tucuvi says its platform supports more than 50 workflows, from post-surgical follow-ups to chronic care, scheduling and medication management, and that some providers automate up to 80% of nursing follow-up calls. In August 2026 the Cantabrian Health Service began rolling out LOLA across hospitals and primary care centres, with NTT DATA as integrator. The Series A is meant to take it into the rest of Europe and the US.

The record

A voice AI nurse from start-up to 60 health systems

Tucuvi's LOLA phones patients to follow up on their care. The EIC funded a project to scale it; a $20 million Series A followed and public health services in Spain signed up.

The Technology: Protocols Turned Into Phone Calls

LOLA holds natural phone conversations with patients, following clinical protocols set by their care team. It collects symptoms, spots warning signs and passes cases that need a professional to nurses or doctors. Patients need no app. Tucuvi says it was the first platform to get European approval as Class IIb medical device software for both its voice agent and its patient management platform.

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows

The EIC project

The EU paid 69% of a €3.6M project

The TUCUVI project ran from February 2023 to July 2025. CORDIS lists it as closed but publishes only the first-period report.

CORDIS project 190184468. Values in € millions.

The project aimed to scale LOLA to any patient and any pathology, with a language-agnostic system and a proprietary speech recognition engine. The first-year report shows progress on languages and care pathways, and its commercial reach grew sharply afterwards. There is no final report on CORDIS, so whether the language-agnostic system and in-house speech engine were finished cannot be checked.

The Money

Tucuvi's latest filed accounts put its annual sales between €500,000 and €1 million, according to Empresia, which does not show the year. The company has not published revenue since. The award was blended finance, but the Series A release does not name the EIC Fund among investors.

The money

The EIC grant and the Series A

The EIC grant against the January 2026 Series A of about €17 million ($20 million). Whether the EIC Fund also invested is not stated in the Series A release.

What Cannot Be Checked

Questions for the EIC

Why no final report has been published, whether the EIC Fund's equity component was paid and how much, and what Tucuvi earns from its 60 customers are not public.

Why Europe Should Care

Tucuvi pitches LOLA as an answer to the "workforce shortages" and rising demand it says health systems face. A certified voice agent that handles routine follow-up calls could free nurses for harder cases, and Spanish public health services are already buying it.

What the project promised

A voice AI able to monitor any patient on any pathology without supervision, at scale.

What the record shows

Tucuvi says it has more than 60 customers and 50 workflows; it has published hospital results and raised a $20 million Series A, but there is no final report.

The Verdict

Growing, but thinly documented

Tucuvi says it now serves more than 60 healthcare organisations and has raised a large funding round since its EIC project. The EIC's own record of what the €2.5 million delivered stops after the first year.
